The Royers Lock serves as a vital shipping link between the Scheldt and the Albert Canal and plays a key role in the operations of the Port of Antwerp, one of the largest and busiest ports in Europe. Since its opening in 1907, the lock has evolved in tandem with the port’s growth and the ever-increasing demand for capacity and efficiency.
Today, the Royers Lock is undergoing a thorough renovation and expansion to prepare it for the future of inland waterway transport. The work, which began in October 2021, is transforming the lock into a high-performance inland waterway lock capable of handling larger vessels smoothly and safely. The dimensions are being significantly increased: from 180 to 235 meters in length and from 22 to 36 meters in width. This will increase capacity and improve traffic flow to the Albert Canal.
To ensure comprehensive monitoring of this large-scale infrastructure project, C-SITE installed several high-quality construction site cameras at strategic locations. These cameras provide continuous visual monitoring of the work without disrupting site operations.
One of the cameras was discreetly mounted on a secure building in the harbor and will be removed afterward without causing any damage.
With the C-SITE time-lapse and live-streaming solution, the project gains a complete visual record of the construction site. The footage is used for:
The Flemish government is making the project widely accessible through a project website featuring time-lapse videos—which are automatically updated every month via a plug-in—and a live stream of the construction site. This allows everyone to follow the progress of the Royerssluis in real time.
In addition, the C-SITE camera footage is also displayed on large screens in the visitor center near the Havenhuis. There, visitors can even control a 360° camera using a joystick to actively explore the shipyard area.
The Royerssluis demonstrates how C-SITE applies its technology to complex infrastructure projects: from continuous site monitoring to communication and public engagement.
Wondering how C-SITE can support your construction or infrastructure project with time-lapse photography, construction cameras, and live streaming without adding to the workload on-site?
