The Marie-Elisabeth Belpaire Building will be the largest circular office building in Belgium, mainly because the two WTC towers that will be replaced by the new ZIN project will largely be retained in the project.
"Of the old towers, 65% were left standing to be given a new life in the ZIN project," says Frank Geets, general manager of the Facility Management Department. "The remaining 35% of the former WTC towers - material from dismantling, but also furniture, for example - is almost entirely used on site, either integrally or after recycling. In this way, 95% of the old towers will eventually get a second life in the new project. The remaining 5% will go to other construction projects.
Another example of sustainable innovation is the horizontal and vertical mounting of solar panels, which will keep employees in the new offices warm and cool. You can see how the solar panels were installed in this timelapse video on LinkedIn .
Every month, a new timelapse video showing the recent developments on the Belpaire building appeared on the Flemish government's project website. This way they kept all interested parties informed without having to do anything themselves: the timelapse updates were automatically placed on the site, thanks to a one-time C-SITE plug-in.
Now that the works are finished, the project website is no longer active. Here you can see another example of an automatic timelapse update.
